THE UNSINKABLE SHIP

The RMS Titanic was the largest ship in the world. RMS means “Royal Mail Ship”. Titanic means “huge, giant, and massive”. Its length was 269.1 metres and the ship used 825 tons of coal every day. There were 10.000 lamp bulbs on the ship; so, it was more like a star in the Atlantic Ocean.

There were 840 rooms on the ship. 416 was for the First-Class passengers;162 was for Second Class passengers; and 262 was for the Third-Class passengers. Thomas Andrews designed this ship, and it was built up in Belfast, Ireland. On the ship, there were 10 decks, on which people danced, walked, talked and musicians played music. The ship had four funnels, but the fourth funnel was not working because it was built to make the ship seem more powerful and strong.

The ship left Southampton on the night of April 14, 1912 to go to New York. This was her maiden voyage. People said that even God cannot sink this ship. However, on the morning of April 15, the RMS Titanic disappeared. The unsinkable ship sank. When the front of the ship went down, it was broken in its half (this is known as Torpedo) and the back of the ship stood up, people fell into the cold water of the ocean and the ship sank in 2 hours 40 minutes.

There were 2,240 passengers and crew on board when the Titanic started her maiden voyage. A lot of people died in this disaster. More than 1,500 people died because of this shipwreck. There were 59 children who died, too. Most people went down into the cold depth of the Atlantic Ocean. Almost 700 people survived in this disaster.

Do you think sharks ate the passengers on the ship? The answer is, of course, No! Sharks did not eat or bite the people in the water because sharks don’t like extremely cold water.

If you want to take a journey on the Titanic, then please wait for the Titanic 2, which is built in China now. It will do her maiden voyage in 2022.

The Giant Lizards: Dinosaurs

When you read about the text below, you will learn about dinosaurs which are known as the giant lizards. Do you know what “dinosaur” means? “Deino” means ‘fearfully great’ in Greek and “sauros” is meaning ‘lizard.’ So, dinosaur means “fearfully great lizard”. Dinosaurs are prehistoric reptiles which lived 245 million years ago. These kinds of animals were extremely large and massive. They had quite big hind legs and strong arms. They could eat a person easily. They were greedy creatures. There are so many types of dinosaurs such as Tyrannosaurus, Velociraptor, Apatosaurus, Stegosaurus, or Triceratops. Dinosaurs are great scary animals which appear in movies, books, magazines, and TV shows. We know them as greenish, scaly, and reptilian giants.                        Dinosaurs ate either meat or plants; they were either carnivorous or herbivorous. All carnivorous dinosaurs ate lizards, turtles, eggs, or early mammals like giraff...

The Ruler of the Seas

The Ruler of the Seas Leviathan  is the other name of Livyatan. It is a prehistoric whale which lived 13 million years ago. It was the ruler of the seas. Livyatan was as strong as Megalodon and Mosasaurus. It weighed as much as 50 tons. It was a huge sea monster. It was the largest predatory whale. Livyatan had the longest teeth among the sea animals. It ate the giant  baleen whales, smaller whales, seals, sharks, and dolphins.   However, this sea monster went extinct because of food drop such as whales or seals. When the sea temperature changed, whales and dolphins died and so Livyatan couldn’t find seafood easily. And it died. It was explored in Peru and Italy.  Eymen Erdem Soruç (EES), 2/B 😎

The roof of the world: Mountain Everest

Do you know about the tallest mountain in the world? Do you want to read about this mountain? Its name is Mountain Everest, which is in the border of Nepal and Tibet. It is known as the roof of the world because it is 8.848 meters tall. This mountain is extremely cold because the temperature is -62C on the top. So, if you don’t like extremely cold weather, don’t think to go there. Mount Everest is 60 million years old and it grows up 44 millimetres every year. Thousands of adventurers go there to climb up the Mountain Everest, but some climbers can’t climb because when you go to the top of the roof, the oxygen reduces and then either you die, or you turn back. The first climbers are Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. These people climbed in 1953. Sir Edmund Hillary was from New Zealand. However, Tenzing was a Sherpa, who carried ropes and all the tents before climbers. If you want to climb to the roof of the world, you have to pay a lot of money because it costs between £25,000 to ...
